Junior School News Update for Term 2

Thursday, May 28, 2009

Junior School is enjoying a wonderful Term Two.  Yrs 1 and 2 are about to head off to the Botanical Gardens to learn all about recycling rubbish and investigating other  parts of our environment. Yrs 3 and 4 have been propagating snails, designing and making mini beasts and searching our playground for little critters, as a part of their studies on Mini Worlds. Our beautiful Kindergarten students have been learning that they have been created unique and special. Recently at the Cedars' School Expo, under the guidance of Miss Sullivan, our Junior School Choir entertained the crowd with their gorgeous singing.

Junior School is very proud of our very own Joel Starr who has represented the school at the CIS Cross Country. Well done Joel. Staff and parents are also very proud of all Year 3 students who recently sat their NAPLAN tests. All students worked extremely hard leading up to the exam.

Kindergarten students have now settled in to their five day a week routine. It’s great to see the students achieving and progressing. We are blessed by our wonderful Kindergarten teachers Mrs Walton and Mrs Blaas. They are extremely hard working teachers!

Prep students are growing by the day, physically, academically, socially and spiritually. We will be welcoming our new Prep Assistant shortly who is replacing the lovely Mrs Wood, currently on maternity leave. Mrs Deck has also joined the staff teaching RFF in Prep and Kindergarten.

Junior School News Update for Term 2

What a beautiful School we have! I am delighted to see students progress academically as well as spiritually and socially. It is our desire to see every child become all that God has intended them to be.

Junior School enjoyed a fantastic start to the year.  As each student was trying to learn the new names of our classes, the fundraiser at the end of Term provided an opportunity for everyone to be introduced thoroughly to the Australian heroes each class was named after. We had recently started to sponsor a child through Compassion and were delighted to raise a substantial amount of money through this fundraiser. It was also fun seeing staff and students dress up in funny costumes!

Another mission focus we have in Junior School is our local nursing home. Each Term classes will visit our friendly neighbours and brighten up their day with singing, sharing God’s Word and other fun activities.

Music lessons with Mrs Walton have proved to be a wonderful success.  Students have the opportunity to play percussion instruments, sing fun tunes and participate in exciting games to develop musical concepts and skills. Our community enjoyed the performances from students as they showed off their skills at our Cedars Expo. Thank you to Mrs Walton for all her hard work in preparing the children. I would also like to thank Mrs Collins who put together a beautiful sounding choir whom the crowd enjoyed. They were fantastic!

We are very proud of our Year 3 students who recently sat the NAPALN exams. Thank you to all the parents and staff who worked behind the scenes to prepare for the tests.

We are also looking forward to the completion of our new hall in August this year. The students have been enjoying seeing its progress as they pass it on their way to the library.
