Middle School Update for Term 1

Monday, February 15, 2010

Welcome back to Middle School for 2010! Our busy Term 1 schedule is well underway in Middle School with a number of key events already ticked off on our calendar. With both the Primary and Secondary Swimming Carnivals completed, our best swimmers are in training for the upcoming South Coast Zone CSSA Championships to be held later in the month.

Our Middle School assemblies kicked off in Week 3 as we began our series of teaching on faith. Pastor Ferdy spoke to us about faith being something that we can’t see but is a powerful force in the lives of Christians. Miss Lauretti’s Yr 5 students also provided us with a colourful reenactment of the story of David and Goliath. We are looking forward to seeing many more students stepping up and getting involved in assemblies this year and use their gifts and talents for God’s glory.

Mr Carden is currently training up a team of 16 Yr 7 students to be sound technicians as a support for our assembly teams and to assist in other School events. These students are commended for their willingness to serve the School community in this way.

A record number of students from Middle School attended the first Student Leadership Council Meeting for 2010. The SLC meetings are open to any student in Yr 5 – 12 and provide an excellent opportunity for students to develop leadership and teamwork skills while making a positive difference in our school community. It was wonderful to see the support enthusiasm amongst Middle School students for this program and we are looking forward to a very productive and successful year.

Our school camp program begins in Week 4 with our Year 5 students heading off to the Shoalhaven. Miss Lauretti, Mrs Scott and Mr Walton will be joining our students for an activity filled two day program. In Week 6, the Yr 7 students head off to Crosslands Convention Centre in Galston for a three day outdoor education program with Mrs Cochrane and Mr Carden. Meanwhile, the Yr 8 students will be based here at the college campus engaged in a cross-curricular project based with Mr Seymour and Miss Harrison.
