Middle School Update for Term 2

Thursday, May 21, 2009
Term 2 is well underway in Middle School with a number of key events already ticked off on our busy school calendar. Students in Years 5 & 7 have just completed three days of NAPLAN testing in Numeracy and Literacy which has been great preparation for the half-yearly examinations commencing for all Middle School students over the next few weeks. These examinations will allow teachers to prepare informative reports for parents on each students progress. Along with these reports, parents are also encouraged to attend the Parent Teacher Interviews to be held in Week 11 on Wednesday 8th July.

Our Year 6 students are looking forward to their annual trip to Canberra on Thursday 14th June, here they will visit Parliament House, the Australian Institute of Sport and the National War Memorial. Mrs Bennett and Mrs Scott will accompany the students on their day long excursion.

The Primary and Secondary Athletics Carnivals are also fast approaching, both being held in Week 10. All Middle School students will be doing preparation for the carnival in their PDHPE lessons over the next few weeks.

Middle School Update for Term 2

Thursday, May 13, 2010
Term Two in Middle School is always a busy one with students and teachers working hard to prepare for NAPLAN and half yearly examinations. These are being held in weeks 4 – 6 so please pray for our students at this time. Teachers will then be collating marks and writing student reports which are due out later in the Term. Our parent teacher interviews for Year 5 and 6 students have been scheduled for Wednesday evening 30th June and Year 7 & 8 interviews will be early in Term Three. All parents and caregivers are encouraged to take this opportunity to discuss their child’s progress with their teachers as we work together to support and enhance both social and learning outcomes.

A number of Middle School students represented the College at the State Cross Country Championships at Eastern Creek. Congratulations to Elizabeth Lamacchia (Yr 7) and Toby Adams (Yr 8) who have been selected to represent the School at the NSW CIS Championships. Abigail Jordan in Yr 6 also deserves special commendation for her selection in the NSW CIS girls’ soccer team. We are very proud of all these students and the effort and dedication they have given toward their sport. With our Primary and Secondary Athletics Carnivals scheduled for later this term, students will have more opportunities to demonstrate their sportsmanship and athletic abilities.

A group of Middle School students, Nathaneal Hutchison, Connor Hutchinson and Rhys Judd have organised a lunch time chess competition. The aim is to develop their chess skills and provide match practice to better prepare them for interschool competitions. These boys, who are all actively involved in the Student Leadership Council, are congratulated for the leadership and initiative shown through their organization of this tournament.
