End of Term 2 Update from Senior College

Tuesday, July 07, 2009
We’ve come to the end of another term and plenty has been happening in Senior College. From sports to learing to cultural events, Cedars students have once again faced a hectic yet fulfiling term.

Year 10 students attended a leadership day at Port Hacking where they were challenged and inspired to find new ways to lead in their own lives. Students shrugged off what was probably the coldest day of the year to get involved in problem solving activities, physical challenges and attended workshops on leadership.

Science students from Year 10 participated in the University of Wollongong Science challenge as did Year 11 students competing in the Chemistry competition.

Year 12 students have been inspired to help the less fortunate by starting a social justice club at the school. During next term, they will participate in World Vision’s 40 Hour Famine with students from Senior College having a school sleepover and getting sponsorship. The social justice club is held every second Thursday and it has been heartening to see students attend from across the sub-school.

Counting the rest of their school lives in a matter of weeks, Year 12 will enter term 3 with the HSC examinations in view. Students have been going to HSC study days in most subject areas including English, Modern History, PDHPE, the Sciences and Technology.

On the sporting field, the Volleyball gala day, basketball and soccer teams have all tasted success. Four students from Senior College were selected in the NSW Christian Schools Association basketball team which will be coached by Mr Ken Jordan.

Next term’s assembly program will be encourage students to consider their passions and how they can turn what they love into a career.
