Students are a little thinner on the ground in Senior College this term, as Year 12 and 10 complete their programs for the Term. Our Year 12 students are doing their Higher School Certificate on School grounds for the first time, and Year 10 students are busily preparing for their School Certificate examination.
For Year 10 parents, this Term has a number of highlights. After the school certificate, students will be going on a community mission project. Students will go to a variety placements including gardening and painting at women’s shelters, helping out at disability housing and engaging with disabled students at local schools. The program is sure to help students experience environments which are different to what they are used to.
Work experience is coming up again soon, with placements as varied as the police force, gyms, administration, sound engineering and nursing. Hopefully, the program will give students a taste of what it is like to be in the workplace full time.
Year 11 students are now officially into Year 12. Our recent information evening provided much needed advice on how to successfully cope with the pressures of the HSC. For some parents, this is the first time – others reported to having gone through the process for the fourth time. Remember, that parents are free to contact myself or other classroom teachers at any point if you are unsure of anything.
Still on Year 11, a number of hospitality students went out in the second week for Term 4 for their work placements. The little Jamie Oliver’s had the opportunity to test their culinary skills in a real work environment.
Finally, I want to extend some warm wishes to Year 12 students who are in the final throes of their Higher School Certificate. Your teachers are looking forward to celebrating with you at your formal on the 18^th of November and we are all proud of the achievement of making it this far.
