“Where words fail, music speaks.” Hans Christian Andersen
It was exciting to have all the Years 4, 5 and 6 Band classes join together for our first Concert Band rehearsals for 2018 and play the tunes they’ve been learning in small class groups this Term. Cedars Band has begun!
Our new Band Teacher, Jenn Cook brought the music students together in the Performance Space yesterday for the first time. “Already they are sounding really good!” Miss Cook said. “We’ve started with a Liberian folk tune called ‘Banuwa’ and a New Orleans piece called ‘Joe Avery’s Blues.’ All the students worked together well to create a good sound and I’m excited to see where we can go with this group.”
Miss Cook has taken up the position of Band Teacher at Cedars each week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and has joined our College with a wealth of experience. “I am trained as a Primary School Teacher and have been working as a Band Teacher for two years. I also work for the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music leading the Band Program in four primary schools and as a Teacher of the CHIME Program facilitating music classes for young children and their parents.”
“I am looking forward to working with the students and seeing them grow and develop in their music knowledge and instrumental skills.”
Band class at Cedars is on Tuesdays for Year 3 and 4 students and on Wednesdays for Year 5 and 6 students. Concert band rehearsal for Years 4, 5 and 6 is held on a Tuesday 2 – 3 times a Term.
