Expert Seminars in Investigating Science

Archaeology (the scientific study of the material remains of past human life and activities) is a fascinating scientific discipline, highlighted in the recent Expert Seminar hosted by the Science Department.

Dr Rebecca Jones (ANU lecturer) delved into the skills and methodology required to conduct reliable and accurate assessments of past cultures and animal behaviour.

The Investigating Science Class heard stories of new discoveries and breakthroughs from Dr Jones’ archaeological digs in Europe and Asia including a bird species that was once living well outside their current location and whale bones found a distance from the present-day coastline.

As a part of their course work the students recognised the importance of exploring and questioning commonly held knowledge and using collaborative teams to answer complex problems.
