Mr Walton and Mrs Brown were chickens!

Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously throughout Australian schools and childcare centres.  This year was a little bit different as the chosen book, ‘Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas’ by Lucinda Gifford was videoed as our Librarian Mrs Saint-John read and our ‘chickens’ Principal Mr Walton and Director of Primary Mrs Brown, acted out the story, including a bit of dancing at the end!

Junior School students were delighted and laughed hilariously as they watched the story being read and acted out and then sang along and danced to the ‘Chicken Dance’ with Mr Walton and Mrs Brown. Kindergarten students in K Blue had this to say:

“To Mrs Saint-John, Mr Walton and Mrs Brown,

We just listened to ‘Whitney and Britney – Chicken Divas’. Thank you for reading the story to us. We thought it was funny when Mr Walton and Mrs Brown were pretending to be chickens that were asleep. We also liked when the chickens were singing, and when they had crowns on their heads!

We loved the Chicken Dance and had lots of fun joining in. We have been learning the Chicken Dance with Mrs Wynn in our PE lessons! We want to say a big thank you for making the book fun to listen to.”

It was great fun for everyone and reinforced the value of literacy and reading.
