“Roll up, Roll Up! The carnival is in town.”
That was the catch cry heard from the Year 8 classrooms as they participated in the annual Carnival Games day. In mathematics, the students have been learning about applications of probabilities and were given the challenge to develop carnival games and perform detailed probability analysis on the possible outcomes. Ducking for ducks, the Balloon Pop and the Cup Shuffle were but a few of the engaging ways that students displayed their understanding of Complementary events, Venn diagrams and Two Way tables. An outstanding effort was given from all the Year 8 mathematicians who now have a greater awareness of the calculations involved in supposedly “fair” games.
