It was wonderful to resume our Primary Band year group tutorials last Thursday.
These tutorials are 45-minute small group lessons, which provide band students in Years 3 – 6 with the opportunity to learn and make music with their peers as they develop their performance and ensemble skills.
Band Leader, Connor Hutchinson commented, “We have enjoyed rehearsing a number of technical exercises and learning various pieces so far this year, including the popular ‘Primary Band Favourites’ medley which includes a number of the students’ favourite songs, such as the National Anthem, My Lighthouse, Hey Jude, The Final Countdown, Happy Birthday, Never Gonna Give You Up, Symphony and Pink Panther. During remote learning, we even participated in a number of ‘virtual’ challenges and exercises, which included playing our scales and performing for a family pet. This term, we are getting into the Christmas spirit, and have begun preparing some of our favourite Christmas carols!”
“Under the new Term 4 COVID-safe guidelines for schools, we are ensuring appropriate distancing of students and increased hygiene measures,” added Connor.
“I have been really encouraged by the progress that each band member has made in their musical journey this year, despite the challenges that we have all encountered in 2020. I am proud of their continued enthusiasm and hard work, and am excited to be making music together again in Term 4.”
