“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.”
It may have been a bit chilly but that didn’t deter our Year 6 students’ enthusiasm yesterday as they took part in an excellent, challenging yet fun Surf Skills Program at Sandon Point Surf Club.
The program was run by Surf Educate Australia (SEA) and followed a surf awareness seminar which was presented at school recently. Students were taught how to spot a rip, what to do if they are caught in rip, float, catch waves and learn how to surf using a board.
All the students participated enthusiastically and took part in each activity, trying hard to put into practice all the skills they were taught.
“What a fantastic day!” said Sport Coordinator Mr Wynn. “Each of the Year 6 Teachers were very impressed by the students’ enthusiastic participation.”
