Visual Arts student portrays ‘the journey of hope’

Year 11 Visual Arts recently completed a unit on Abstract Art. With a very open brief to convey an emotion in an abstract painting on any sort of substrate, student Hannah Cook chose to paint a ladder. This work stands proudly in the art room, drawing compliments and intrigue from students.

In Hannah’s words:

” The series of paintings began with the ladder, where it explores hope as an ever-present essential human emotion. At the base of the ladder black combines with melted garbage bags, blending to grey and khaki, lightening through with pinks into whites. On each step the colour of the rung fades. This work attempts to capture the journey of hope: even though it is always there, you must look for it.”
