Fast forward to the year 2070. Fifty years from now the world will be discussing, commenting and researching how we lived in the year 2020. Here is an unusual thought; ‘Our future is watching us!’ The question is, ‘What would we want them to say about us?’
Tim Kellar says, “What we believe about the future is one of the best predictions for how we act today”.
I hope that they would report Christians and Christian organisations were people of strength and stability! Imagining how the future will describe us gives us a unique opportunity now, in this unusual time, to consider how we should live.
The Bible gives us some thoughts.
Philippians 2:1-5 NLT
1 Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate?
2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.
3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.
4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
Wouldn’t it be great for Cedars of 2070 to say our school (2020) was intentionally focused on lifting others up and generous with love and concern, not only of its own community but the wider community.
Of course, the future has not yet been written, but how exciting it is to be able to influence what will be included in that story. My prayer for you is that you would know the comfort and hope you have in Christ and pass that on to others!
