Remote Learning…it’s all about connection.

Remote learning can be challenging, it can be lonely, it can be frustrating – we all know that.

But our teachers are doing everything they can to make this time in remote learning less challenging, less lonely, less frustrating – how? By connecting with our students.

Our teachers go above and beyond to not only educate their students academically, they are also checking up on their students, praying 🙏🏼with them, making sure they are not only studying but having fun and encouraging them to exercise and be creative through fun challenges. Our Director of Wellbeing, Chaplain, Psychologists and Sub School Coordinators are also all playing a big part in helping our students to not just ‘get through’ this time, but to flourish in it.

We are passionate about community relationships and connectedness ❤️, we want our students to not just survive but to thrive! 🙌🏼

A Cedars student is Resilient!💪🏼🙌🏼

Yes, we’ve gone back into a lockdown, yes that means remote learning again, yes there is uncertainty and at times even fear about the future.

But….our students are learning a powerful lesson in resilience. They will be known as the ‘Resilient Generation’ and how we prepare them now will impact how they face the future.

During a crisis we often look for stability, however our students are learning that stability is only a short term strategy. Resilience on the other hand will bring long term success and will help our students to not only survive but to flourish. Stability weathers the storm, resilience uses the storm to learn, grow and change.

The characteristic of resilience has been one we have always encouraged in our students, and one we have championed in them.

Yes, this isn’t where we thought we’d be, but we are resilient and our faith in God especially, along with our strong relationships with each other will help us to grow and to be better people who will impact our world for the good.

We’ve got this Cedars.🙌🏼

International Students UOW – ’40 Ways of Givin

International Students UOW – ’40 Ways of Giving’ #4

When our College Captains along with our Principal and Chaplain went to visit @paulscullymp (last Term pre lock down) and ask him what needs we have in the community that as a school we could give towards for our 40th Anniversary, Mr Scully mentioned that we have international students here who are unable to get home to visit family during the pandemic and are in some ways left ‘stranded’ here. Their families are not easily able (if at all) to send money to help support them. He said it would be wonderful if we could help provide some food for them.

And so, for one of our ’40 Ways of Giving’ last term we held a ‘Cultural Celebration Day’ to collect pantry food items (quality items) to pack into bags and give to the international students at UOW who would benefit from some nutritious food items.

Well, our community rose to this chance to give and generously gave 45 bags worth of food for the international students, and not food that was left over in their pantries, this was food that had been purchased recently, food that was quality, food that any one of us would love to eat. Each bag had $50 worth of food to give totalling $2250 worth of food that was given. 👏🏼

Our Chaplain and two Senior Leaders packed their car full of the bags of food and drove to the Uni International House to deliver their bags full of goodies. They were greeted with great excitement and overwhelming appreciation from their student representatives. They couldn’t stop thanking us and wanted us to pass on their deep gratitude to our community. They also expressed how much they would love to work together in the future.

We may not be able to travel during the holidays as many of us were planning to, but we're here to take you on a little virtual event we held last term.😁

Everyone loves a fashion show! Especially when the show is put on by Prep students.😍

Pre covid 'lockdown' our youngest students took to the catwalk and strutted their stuff, wearing their favourite outfits and delighting their audience of peers and teachers.

We all need some fun, and some photos of our precious children to make us smile and realise how much we have to be thankful for in these unexpected days. 😍🙏🏼

Beanie Day for Compassion – ‘40 Ways of Giving’ #3

Junior School students and staff wore their favourite toasty warm beanies and brought in a gold coin donation for Compassion @compassionau , raising $665 - another of our ’40 Ways of Giving’ to celebrate 40 years of Cedars.

Compassion is an international child-advocacy ministry which helps to support children living in extreme poverty and has been a cause very close to our hearts for many years. The students were very excited to wear their beanies and bring in a small donation, knowing every gold coin counts.

Super Science Circuits Our Yr 6 students have been

Super Science Circuits
Our Yr 6 students have been totally engaged in their latest activity for Science –creating something cool using circuits. Using creativity and resourcefulness, our clever Middle Schoolers loved learning Science in such a practical, hands on way! 🙌🏼😎🧬

Here’s what some of our budding Scientists had to say:

“Welcome to the Botanic City Located In London! See beautiful sights and scenery with a Ferris wheel located in the centre of the city. There is an awesome school named Cedars Christian College and an RSPCA approved farm. Electricity is used to power all the structures and wind energy to spin the Ferris wheel for everyone in the city. There is a beautiful pool with a heating button for winter. The city is covered in a beautiful blanket of flowers.” (WOW🤩!!)

“Our team worked well we all played our part, and the result was amazing. The structure was 3D and was built out of paddle pop sticks and masking tape. The windmill was powered by a motor connected with wires to a small battery.” 👏🏼

“It worked out! We got it to spin, and it was amazing. When we all played a part, in the end it all worked out. It spun fast, it held, and it looked good. It was fun to work with all my friends.”👍🏼

“The most difficult part was working out the switch, we had a few trials and errors, but we got there in the end and had a great windmill and a great time!” 👌🏽

“Science Day was such a great opportunity for people who don't know much about circuits to learn. There were so many great inventions all around the room and I was so amazed that people my age could actually build things like them. I believe that this is a great way for people to learn about circuits whilst having fun.” (Wisdom right there!)

“Today we made a Mini Sushi Train Restaurant called KAJI Sushi. Our team used Lego for the exterior of the Restaurant, and we used a motor and cardboard for the spinning Sushi train. We also used a light for the sign, we connected some wires to the 💡 and a battery to make it glow. We had amazing teamwork and cooperated really well.”👏🏼🇯🇵
